Machete

I have to start this with the statement “I’m a Robert Rodriquez fan and I love his violent, over-the-top, testosterone-driven movies” so with that being said, it’s no wonder that this movie like all his others was so freakin’ awesome. This is Grindhouse at it’s gore-filled best. In the first ten minutes of the film you not only see nudity and blood splatter, but you also see multiple decapitations and later in the film they do something with a human intestine that I’ve never seen done in a movie before. As the opening animation sequence begins, I put my overpriced M&M’s in my pocket, strapped myself in and prepared myself for the wickedly violent ride that is Machete.

The story is pretty predictable, but as someone once said “It’s not about the destination, but the journey” and this is a bloody, violence driven movie with hot chicks toting big guns and kicking ass, so the journey is a fun one. The movie opens with the betrayal of the main character Mexican Federale Machete (Danny Trejo) and the murder of his family at the hands of the slimy narco-jefe Torrez (Steven Seagal).

Three years later Machete is an out of work day laborer who meets up with Luz (Michelle Rodruquez) who not only sells tacos out of a taco truck to the day laborers to “put something other than hate in their stomachs” but also embodies the myth of the revolutionary She¢ the leader of “The Network.” She helps Machete evade the law after he is set up and double crossed by Michael Booth (Jeff Fahey) in an assassination attempt against the racist Senator John McLaughlin (Robert De Niro) who teams up with Lt Stillman (Don Johnson) for late night shootings of border crossing Mexicans.

Machete gathers a group of people and he seeks revenge against those who double crossed him. I enjoyed the different characters in this movie; there is Santana Rivera (Jessica Alba, who is smoking‘ hot in this movie) the naive immigrations officer who believes that “It’s different here, the law works here” but who begins to question her loyalty to her job. She will have to choose between the law and her feelings of helping her “brothers and sisters” to find a better life in the States.

Cheech Marin plays Machete’s brother who also happens to be a Padre. It’s a role he played in the original fake trailer for Robert Rodriquez’s Grindhouse movie from around 2007 or so. I like Cheech in this movie because he gets to say all the great lines.

Robert De Niro is great in this movie - that’s all I have to say

Michelle Rodriquez is so hot in this one - I don’t what it is about the eye patch, but I like it.

I know this movie is not for everyone - it’s violent and bloody, but it’s so over-the-top that it almost seems comical and not as shocking as it could be. I liked this movie and plan to see it again if for no other reason than watching Michelle Rodriquez emerge with the weapons and the eye patch

Dude... the movie looks awesome... I just can't see bloody, violent movies any more. It is strange... Once I became a dad I couldn't do it any more.

BTW... Jessica Alba is WAY hotter than that Rodriguez chick

it won't go down as a great movie, but it's a fun movie and the violence is over-the-top sort of like it was on Kick Ass, so it's not all that realistic.

Jessica Alba is very hot in this movie, but I like those tough chicks like Michelle Rodriquez who kick ass.
